Compliance & Safety
How we approach electrical compliance, fittings and safety — and why a product stays a draft until its documentation is confirmed.
Our approach
Electrical compliance information is checked before products are added to the store where applicable. We list the plug, fitting and bulb type on every product page, and we don't publish a product until its documentation and fitting details are confirmed.
What we check before publishing
Before a product goes live, we confirm:
- CE / UKCA status where applicable
- Plug type or fitting type — plug-in, hard-wired, rechargeable, USB, battery, or shade-only
- Voltage and bulb / base type
- Dimensions, materials and weight
- Installation requirements
- Delivery estimate and supplier data
Until those are confirmed, a product stays a draft and is not purchasable.
What we don't claim
We don't display a CE/UKCA badge, or describe a product as "certified", until the relevant certificate or documentation is in hand. We don't imply an origin or standard we can't support, and we don't default every product to "UK 3-pin plug" — each page shows that product's actual fitting.
Fittings & installation
Plug-in pieces simply plug into a standard UK socket. For hard-wired pieces such as many pendant lights, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician. The correct fitting for each item — including whether a ceiling rose is included — is shown on its product page.
Using your lighting safely
- Use a bulb within the stated maximum wattage and the recommended type.
- Keep paper and fabric shades away from moisture and direct contact with the bulb.
- Switch off and unplug before changing a bulb or cleaning.
- If anything seems damaged on arrival, don't use it — contact us and we'll put it right.
